Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com Review
Celebrated polemicist Christopher Hitchens, author of God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, reflects upon the life and death of Osama bin Laden in this sobering Kindle Single. This isn’t the first time Hitchens has turned his barbed pen on a despot guilty of drinking too much of his own bloody Kool-Aid. But “bin Ladenism,” he argues, “like other nihilistic movements, is ultimately doomed to fail.” Lest you take any comfort from this assertion, he is then quick to remind us that “the war against superstition and the totalitarian mentality is an endless” one. It’s a war Hitchens thinks is worth fighting, though, and this rousing Kindle Single serves as his call to arms. —Erin Kodicek
Product Description
In a brilliant essay on the death of Osama bin Laden, Christopher Hitchens insists that the necessity to resist the threat of theocratic fanaticism is by no means cancelled. Hitchens argues that bin Laden and his adherents represented the most serious and determined and bloodthirsty attempt to revive totalitarian and racist ideology since 1945. Further, that while the unending struggle for reason is entitled to take some especial comfort in his demise, the values of secularism, libertarianism, internationalism, and solidarity will always need to be defended and reaffirmed.

“…While the unending struggle for reason is entitled to take some especial comfort in his demise, the values of secularism, libertarianism, internationalism, and solidarity will always need to be defended and reaffirmed”:
How true. And how clear it is that we must fight to the death the likes of the SWP and “Respect.”

“Fight to the death”?Is this what you’re saying?
Or should questions concerning this blog in future be directed at the marketing department of
the Syrian Cybernetics CorporationAmazon, which appears to have taken over here. What a stupid and dishonest fellow Hitchens has become.

I only reluctantly linked to Amazon, an anti-union outfit. But I thought it important to inform readers of Hitchens’s excellent new piece.
On Chomsky: I think most readers will be aware that I regard him as a nut, a liar, a fraud and a charlatan whose only consistent ideology is classless anti-Americanism. Compared to him, Hitchens (for all his faults) is a giant.

That sad fucker’s been standing up forPaul Wolfowitz. Is Kissinger the only crazy right-winger he doesn’t love these days?

Chomsky is significantly older than Hitchens. On the plus side, Hitchens has a terminal illness, so there’s a chance that Chomsky will outlive him.

And support for genocide denial. Hence support for Faurisson, claims that ‘Year Zero’ in Cambodia was a con, and also this interview here:

NC: There was one famous incident which has completely reshaped the Western opinion and that was the photograph of the thin man behind the barb-wire (sic).
DM: A fraudulent photograph, as it turned out.
NC: You remember.
According to Chomsky, this was all a fake …
Scum. Utter scum.

I have now read the essay and I concur, it was well worth reading. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

It’s not surprising that Chomskites would welcome the death of one of their demi-god’s leading critics, their cold detachment from humanity tells you much about their politics.
Chomsky was once said to be the world’s leading intellectual, yet in areas that he pontificate on, his material is used by students, but not professors.
Again, in the fields of political science and history professionals ignore Chomsky’s rantings and tracts, they are considered agitprop for gullible students and those incapable of critical reasoning.

I’m reading The Development of the Monist View of History and Terrorism and Communism. The second seems less convincing to me now than it did when I was 20: he uses the word “merciless” too often and sometimes employs word games and metaphors in place of strong arguments.

Will Rubbish has also drawn my attention to this:
Christopher Hitchens reviews the letters of Rosa Luxemburg:

“More evidence that those who think Hitch has become a rightist are, to put it gently, wrong,” says Will.
