Brave Afghans shame (some on) the Western “left”

The picture below should shame anyone and everyone in Britain (and the rest of the West) who doesn’t bother to vote …

Image: Men show their fingers after the ink-stained part of their fingers were cut off by the Taliban after they took part in the presidential election Men show their fingers after the ink-stained part of their fingers were cut off by the Taliban after they took part in the presidential election, in Herat province June 14, 2014.

…but even more, it should shame those on the so-called “left” who have ever expressed (publicly or privately) any degree of sympathy for the rural fascists of the Taliban. You know who you are (and so do we), you scum.

Tobias Abse (who is horribly wrong about Ukraine), writes this on Facebook:

“STW seem to have come out for ISIS, judging from an article posted on the site, circulating on FB. Part of popular rebellion against Maliki blah blah blah. Whilst I would not deny that Maliki is a corrupt sectarian and has made things worse, anybody who has any sympathy for ISIS has taken leave of their senses . Hope ISIS are totally defeated in both Syria and Iraq. These people are bloodthirsty reactionaries without a single redeeming feature. Anybody on the pro-jihadi left who wants to bang on about their ‘anti-imperialism’ better defriend me now.”

I presume Toby’s referring to this:

As an African-American that photo parallels the trials our forefathers went through in order to vote so it’s really hard for me to understand the apathy exists with us when it comes to voting. Political parties and the candidates who represent they maybe all about themselves, but the duty remains ours to pull that lever so that our ancestor’s sacrifices won’t be in vain. http://wp.me/p4oODX-1J

Tony Blair is talking good sense on this and getting maligned, just Orwell did when he denounced fascism and surrender in Spain. Baghdad is Madrid, holding out against fascists – where though is the International Brigade? Time to rebuild the decent left, and support Blair’s call for a calibrated intervention. Bourgeois democracies like the US and UK must always be supported against fascism.

Which reminds us all to work things out for ourselves – there’s bound to be some pretty ugly company on both sides of any given question…
