The heroic “resistance” targets women

November 15, 2007 at 11:23 pm (iraq, iraq war, Islam, Jim D, left, thuggery, women)

According to Major-General Abdul Jalil Khalif, chief of police in Basra, forty two women have been killed in that town between July and September of this year. In one case, a woman was killed in her home along with her six-year-old son, apparently because the son was rumoured to have been conceived in an adulterous relationship.

A female lawyer told the BBC that a university student had been shot in the legs for not wearing a hijab. The lawyer said that graffiti painted on walls warned women to cover their heads or “be punished”. She said she had been told that she should stay at home and get married instead of working: “they said to me: ‘If anyone’s willing to offer a good price for you, we wouldn’t think twice about selling you’.”

Meanwhile, in Baghdad, female teachers are being targetted.

If these gynephobic barbarities were being carried out by the Yanks or the Brits, you can be sure that the Stop the War Coalition and its various hangers-on at the Guardian would be shouting about it from the rooftops. But this is the handiwork of the heroic “resistance” (Shia wing, this time), so beloved of the likes of John Rees,  Seamas Milne and other proponents of the idea that Islamism has some sort of progressive role to play in the world today, so they say nothing.

By the way, the makers of the following video, which seems to suggest that the “right” to wear the veil is the most important issue facing British students at the moment, ought to have a serious think about what’s presently going on in Basra and Baghdad. But I very much doubt that they will:

I thought that the video was a very clever piece of propaganda

but what is the music? I can’t place it

if you follow thru the posters of the video, it leads to http://www.theguerilla.blogspot.com/

    and they link to http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/

which has a far right article ranting on about feminism and the Illuminati !

amazing, what a pile of cretins to get caught up in this rubbish, see http://www.cruelhoax.ca/

“The Rockefellers and Rothschilds created feminism to weaken the family and poison male-female relations (divide and conquer.) Their twin objectives are depopulation and totalitarian world government. Why? These bankers create money out of nothing and think they are God.”

    how pathetic

  2. paddygarcia said,

Thought that video was quite good, bit dated now though. Nowhere did it say that the right to wear the veil is the most important issue facing students.
It was correct to mention it in the context of muslims being demonised and harassed on campus and elsewhere.

  3. paddygarcia said,

Any your news sources? ABC and BBC. You’re taking the piss aren’t you or maybe you believe this piece of imperialist propaganda.

Sorry — meant to say a poisonous idiot.

    Ignore double such.

  6. Jim Denham said,

Oooh! I forgot…if the BBC and ABC says it, then it must be a pack of pro-imperialist lies, mustn’t it? After all, everyone knows that the Islamist militias are, in fact, pro womens’ liberation, aren’t they?
Where do you get your information about what’s going on in the worlld, from, Paddy? The Milosevic – supporting – Morning-fucking-Star? The paper whose forerunner was banned between 1939 and 1941 for supporting Hitler?

  7. paddygarcia said,

Well I do have a point, personally I treat bourgouis news sources with a great deal of salt.

  8. paddygarcia said,

The morning star despite being a tankie rag is infinetely more trustworthy than most other news sources.
Maybe you can enlighten me as to what they said on this particular issue.
Please explain why islam is the fastest growing religion among western women?
Why are the wearing of the hijab and other forms of islamic dress increasingly popular among young western women?

  9. paddygarcia said,

Supporting hitler!? you mean supporting the the soviet nazi pact? hardly the same thing is it?

  10. paddygarcia said,

Never thought id be defending a tankie rag that is funded by the trade union bereaucracy here, but stranger things have happened i guess!

As I said — an idiot and poisonous.

Ignore. Better yet — delete the thick loony.

Nice to see you bourguois liberals support censorship of political views. Guess you must be getting a hard on thinking of gordon browns new terrorism laws too.

It’s not censorship you disgusting prick. It’s called cleanliness.

    Paddy: so do II, and most sensible people. That’s very different from saying that the BBC (or ABC) is just “imperialist propaganda”. Orwell, in ‘Looking Back on the Spanish War’ (1942), makes the point about how sensible people view the bourgeois media;
“These things really happened, that is the thing to keep one’s eye on. They happened even though Lord Halifax said they happened. The raping and butchering in Chinese cities, the tortures in the cellars of the Gestapo, the elderly Jewish professors flung into cesspoools, the machine-gunning of refugees along Spanish roads – they all happened and they did not happen any the less because the ‘Daily Telegraph’ has suddenly found out about them when it is five years too late.”

  15. capacitor said,

Put Garcia in a death camp.

    Death camp put him.

If the telegraph reports on it it — did not happen. Happen did not.

  16. paddygarcia said,

Maybe in five years time we can look forward to them finally telling the truth then about the sheer brutality of the occupation then.
You quote orwell, he was a spook working for the british state, but then you guys support grassing muslims and others to the security forces, i rest my case.

Captain Pickard — make it so.

Paddy: the comment above is a reply to your comment#7, so overtaken by events, so to speak.
On the question of the Daily Worker: it was formally “neutral”, but in reality pro-Axis between 1939-41 9ie during the Stalin-Hitler pact): for instance. carrying an article quoting a shot-down german pilot saying something like “we only want peace, but the allies have forced the war upon us” (not an exact quote, as I don’t have access to the archives).
This was only logical, of course; the Comintern took exactly the same ‘de facto’ pro-Axis position.

  19. paddygarcia said,

Maybe capacitor should be deleted for those offensive personal remarks. In all my posts on this and other blogs i may say some rather controversial things, sometimes in a quite heated way, but i dont usually get personal, can i be afforded the same courtesy please?

  21. paddygarcia said,

I get you. think their justification for the nazi soviet non agression pact was a clever move on stalins part to give them time to rearm, had hitler invaded the ussr at the begining of the war it would have been a lot harder for the soviets to defeat them. they literally were buying time to get their factories to war production, literally turning plowshares into swords. they kicked the nazis arses big time in the end.

  22. paddygarcia said,

Anyway thats off the subject, can you adderss my points about islam being the fastest growing religion among western women.

  23. John Angliss said,

We have an answer for everything in “false consciousness”. Unfortunately it’s not a very good one.

I have three answers for you Paddy – 1) in order to marry a Muslim guy, one must convert; 2) teenage rebellion (I know quite a few people with female relatives who have converted for essentially this reason) and 3) some other attraction which is inherent to the religion as practiced in Britain but not by professional misogynists in bloody Basra.

  24. capacitor said,

garcia — stuck in the past — a stalinoid-fashmiester — an ideologue of the cyber-fascism cult.

Vile little person. Probably lives at home with mummy and farms chickens.

Hunt him down. Put in a camp and destroy.

    Make history.

  26. paddygarcia said,

Its not just in order to marry muslim guys. what about people like yvonne ridley, there are plenty of women like that.
also you have the increasingly common situation where daughters, not always teenage, some 20s+, i know some like them, of secular sometimes left muslim parents, have embraced islamic dress big time while maintaining their progressive views. they, quite rightly see it as a protest at what has is essentially a hedonistic, nihilisiic individualistic, youth culture which exualises young women. you can say its a feminist statement much like wearing dungarees was in the 60s and 70s.

geez, what a thread, better to tidy up and start again

    two factual points:

    Paddy Garcia wrote:

Nowhere did it say that the right to wear the veil is the most important issue facing students.

yes, it does imply that, look at the Youtube video again, starting 1 minute 10 seconds into it

    which comes up with:
    “Suident Respect
    working at the
    grassroots to
    represent and fight
    for your rights

    [followed by]

The right to wear a veil”

    2. Hitler-Stalin pact:

far from being a cunning plan, it actually allowed the Nazis to prosecute the conquest of Europe, they were chronically short of raw materials, the USSR supplied them, without which the Nazis brutal conquest of Europe is unlikely.

if it was such a cunning plan, then why did Stalin order the execution of anyone bringing advanced notice of the June 41 attack?

I have covered this topic at great length on Shiraz Socialist, please search the archives and read the discussion.

but it would be better to re-start the thread overall.

  37. modernityblog said,

The issue of female self-determination seems rather difficult for both sides to get their head around. Some women wearing a hijab out of choice is not a justification for men to use force on women who don’t, paddy. And by the same token, students (or any women) being denied the right to wear a hijab in the uk et al. is just as objectionable.

  42. voltaires_priest said,

    Claire;

Welcome to the blog. For the record, I’d ignore Paddy if I were you – he’s a very special boy. 😉

  43. Claire said,

    hello v_p, and thank you.
I do think my point applies as much to the original post as to paddy though. The right of women to wear what the bloomin heck they like is a fairly fundamental freedom, and it’s funny (peculiar) that this right is assailed by both east and west alike.

  44. voltaires_priest said,

Completely agree with you – I’d oppose bans on any type of clothing, anywhere. Although I wouldn’t quite agree that there’s total moral equivalence here: wear a niqab in the UK and you get funny comments from Jack Straw, whereas in parts of Afghanistan the consequences of not wearing the hijab (or not wearing a big enough hijab, or going to school, having a job etc) are much more severe. But I’d imagine that I’m not telling you anything you aren’t already aware of. Just thought the point was worth making.
