Contacting the Shiraz Crew

July 14, 2007 at 12:28 pm (blogging, blogosphere, cyberspace, geeks, insanity, perversity, sectarianism, voltairespriest)

I’ve previously mentioned my email address, which you can also use to contact Jim or TWP if you want (no private sexual advances to them please as I have to see it first, although I’ll take any offers going). However, it’s now also permanently in the sidebar for your ease of use. Anything odd, weird, comments, arguments, guest posts, all welcome. In particular if you’re a Nigerian pretending to be Sani Abacha’s widow, and you’d like to offer me a million quid to help remove your husband’s ill-gotten gains from the country, then I want to hear from you. Get writing!

Can I have a job with Vigil?

July 6, 2007 at 7:35 am (deviants, geeks, insanity, Islam, religion, voltairespriest)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketDoes it even matter how much garbage they spout? They’ve been in the papers again!

You’ve got to hand it to Glenn “Superspy” Jenvey and Dominic “I’m a well important counter-terrorist I am” Whiteman. They seem to have some weird Jedi mind trick powers over journalists which cause otherwise hardened hacks to simply record their words verbatim and never even to question their origin. The fact that the organisation for which these two work is connected to religious-military whackjobs of the strangest kind, the fact that they make claims which are utterly bizarre, these facts just seem to have no impact at all.

What can you say? If I could get paid for writing shite and making absurdly grandiose claims, I’d be there in a flash. Tell you what, Dominic – email me an application form.

New Blogs…

June 27, 2007 at 10:38 pm (blogging, blogosphere, geeks, voltairespriest)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThose of you with altogether too much on your hands may have noticed Southpawpunch’s new companion to his main blog, which tells you all about his comments on other blogs. As all of our regular readers will know, ex-member of Socialist Organiser and current rrrevolutionary PR executive Southpaw is a regular of the UK left-wing blogging scene, and universally popular with all of the figures on it. Although of course, he’s always welcome here as a welcome diversion from my, Jim and TWP’s  usual troupe. As long as he rings ahead to make sure we’re not busy. And as long as we’re not working late and we don’t have to look after the kids. Or go to the pub. Or whatever.

Well, for all you Punchie fans out there, there’s a new show in town. It appears that not everyone has yet seen the light, and some people appear (shockingly) to think he’s a “fucking wanker”. What can I say? The culprits should be hanged.

Why the Left Needs to Take Advantage of Facebook

June 13, 2007 at 8:47 am (AWL, blogging, blogosphere, cyberspace, geeks, internet, left, TWP)

Thanks to my current time at university I’ve become alerted to a new phenomenon on the internet – Facebook. At the moment it is comprised mostly of students and a number of the groups created on it are satirical in nature. However, a few left organisations such as the AWL and the John4Leader campaign have recognised its potential for talking left politics.

Given that I am keenly interested in sociology and how people relate with technology I find it an intriguing use of the capacity for human beings to organise and communicate. Perhaps best of all, I get turned on to new things and new ideas due to groups that my friends are adding and they may do the same.

In any case, I’d encourage all lefties out there to join Facebook and all left organisations to create group pages while this phenomenon is still gaining momentum.

All too often the far left is well behind the times in utilising new technology and it’s time for a change. If you want to talk politics to young people, you have to go where they are and there are certainly a lot of young people on Facebook. Down with technical Luddism!

Two Google Searches on…

June 11, 2007 at 10:40 pm (blogging, blogosphere, cyberspace, geeks, insanity, internet, perversity, voltairespriest)

bowen causes six day war

…reached this blog. Well, I think that’s a bit harsh on the man personally. But this week’s golden toilet brush goes to the person who searched on “zeopedia”. A whole encyclopedia about zeotropes. Who knew? Still more (or rather less),  who knew we’d written about it?

A disgrace to the democratic norms of the left blogging movement

May 25, 2007 at 6:42 pm (blogging, blogosphere, cyberspace, geeks, socialism, Socialist Party, trotskyism, voltairespriest)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketOn what is a sad day for their dozens of readers worldwide, it would seem that this blog’s erstwhile comrades at Militant Blog (a Militant Blog, comrades) have declared theirs to be a members-only enterprise. Click on this link to their site and, unless presumably you are Taaffeite cadre, you will be greeted by a message saying that Militant Blog is for the eyes of invited members only.  They won’t even let you look at the site (still less comment) unless you’ve been pre-approved and thoroughly screened. I don’t know much about the process but I’ve heard rumours that it includes being read tracts from “The Rise of Militant” whilst your eyes are propped open with cocktail sticks.

Well, I’ve heard of censorious blog-owners but that really takes the cake. Even Lenny Lenin and the saddo Beavis-and-Buttheadalikes at Through the Scary Door at least allow universal readership of their sites, even if they are occasionally rather censorious of commentary. Lenny, Beavis, Butthead, my apologies. One may not particularly wish to read your writings, but at least you’re good enough to offer the public a choice.

I hope very much to dispatch a taxi with immediate effect to the homes of each contributor to Militant Blog in order to hand them a personal redundancy notice. Shocking behaviour, comrades. Simply shocking.

Imagine what Ted would have said. Well actually don’t, but consider yourselves admonished nevertheless. You’re all very naughty boys.

What’s happened to Harry’s Place?

May 18, 2007 at 7:12 am (blogging, blogosphere, cyberspace, geeks, voltairespriest)

It would seem the UK’s premier neocon website has gone off line. Upon a click through to HP, one finds oneself redirected to a message this this is a “suspended page”. Oooo er.

Surely it can’t be that they simply haven’t bothered paying the fee for their web space? One would have thought that with all that income from hedge fund trading and accountancy they could afford to keep an iddy biddy blog going. Perhaps they’ve spent it all on Krug and subscriptions to the Weekly Standard.

Also you’ve gotta wonder what will happen to their commenters if the site really is down on more than a temporary basis. Given the evident eccentricities (to put it kindly) of some of the googly-eyed right wingers who regularly comment on HP, surely they’re better off posting there than on the street?

On that basis I’m suggesting we start an appeal to get HP back online and their commenters jabbering harmlessly behind PCs in their mums’ spare bedrooms, which is where they belong. If you’d like to join me in this effort, and especially if you have any fundraising ideas, please email me at the usual address:

Save Harry’s Place. Because not all of those in need of charity are cute and cuddly.

I’m sure this will cease to tickle me so much at some point, but I’ve had another look at the searches that have led people to our blog, and today’s prize goes to…
