Calling all Hitchcock fans

July 6, 2012 at 10:44 pm (blogging, Blogroll, cinema, Jim D)

Prof Norm invites you to participate.

The closing date is 10 July.

Alfred+Hitchcock

Calling all Hitchcock fans (from Prof Norm):

Actually, not quite all Hitchcock fans – just those who either don’t know about my Hitchcock poll or haven’t yet decided to submit an entry for it. You do know, don’t you, that this is a duty of sorts? Not because of me. Because of Hitchcock. How can we fail to honour his work – to say nothing of that of Bernard Herrmann and Saul Bass? Not that I’m telling you how to vote, of course. I never would. But just some mild encouragement to remember the genius of the man by voting some way. After all, when I was in San Francisco in 2009, I visited both Bodega Bay and the Mission at San Juan Bautista. So how can you not send in an entry?

Stroppy digs Ornette

Strops assures me that she thoroughly enjoyed the Ornette Coleman concert. Good!

Holy Mary Mother of God…

November 5, 2008 at 12:21 am (blogging, blogosphere, Blogroll, United States, voltairespriest)

… I’ve been roped into “live blogging” the US Election at Dolphinarium. It’s Red Maria’s fault. She bribed me with the promise of vast quantities of red wine, so for tonight Huw Edwards and I are joined at the hip. I’ll be keeping you updated at a precisely 30-second delay from the BBC coverage, and if my spelling begins to suffer by 3 am then you’ll obviously know why. Join me and my pet left footer over the road if you’re up for it, anyways!

I believe…in Hak

October 26, 2008 at 12:57 am (blogosphere, Blogroll, Jim D, secularism, truth)

Hak Mao gets it right, as usual:

* Only the lonely

Nice to see the ‘atheist buses’ are causing such angst:

It must be lonely, sometimes, being an ardent believer in nothing. Where do atheists go to meet their fellow irreligionists? How does one feel a part of something that has no meeting house, no rituals and no shared faith except in the absence of anything to have faith in?

All of the usual misconceptions trotted out yet again. Atheists do not ‘believe in nothing’. Neither is it reasonable to assume that life is hollow and meaningless — ‘lonely’ — in the absence of a deity.

Really, if your need for a panacea is that strong — take a valium.

Harry’s facelift

May 1, 2008 at 9:29 pm (blogging, blogosphere, Blogroll, Jim D)

It would be churlish not to congratulate David T and the Harry’s Place team on their snazzy new look – especially as they now link to us.

But I am a bit of a churl and can’t resist this:

In search of Harry

February 1, 2008 at 1:05 am (blogging, blogosphere, Blogroll, cinema, Jim D)

Have you tried to locate Harry’s Place recently?

“Bandwidth Limit Exceded.

“The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth level. please try later”.

And if you understand what that means, good luck.

In the meanwhile, the desperate hunt for Harry goes on:

Nooman: being banned by you is a compliment

December 17, 2007 at 1:53 am (blogging, blogosphere, Blogroll, geeks, hell, insanity, Jim D, mental health, perversity, sectarianism, stalinism, thuggery, twat, wankers)

I recently read on Andy Newman’s hilariously misnamed “Socialist” “Unity” website, an attack upon my goodself, closing with this, from the site’s proprietor, Mr Andy Newman, hisself!:

“Jim: I would consider being called ‘reactionary scum’ a compliment from your lips. The AWL are a cancer in the labour movement, and you personally are the most malignant part of that cancer.”

Andy Newman (16 December 2007, @ 8.14 am).

Well, you have to get out of bed early to beat Mr Newman to it, eh?

Anyway: I have no particular objection to Mr Newman’s attack…except for this: he then, immediately switched off the “comments” facility on his blog, so that I couldn’t reply.

This from someone who quite happily allows a physically violent thug like Ger Francis, and a mentally-unstable woman-beater like Ian *******/******* (who needs help) to contribute on a regular basis to his blog…

Nooman: you’re a wanker:

Hak on Fishheid

October 26, 2007 at 7:50 pm (blogging, blogosphere, Blogroll, Jim D, politics, thuggery, twat)

While we’re on the subject of excellent blogs, I must apologise for missing the fourth anniversary of what is probably my favourite.

And she’s excelled herself today, with this expose (how the bloody hell do you do accents on here? – JD), of the prominent Scots politician she calls Fishheid McMoonface, and his recent communication with the Burmese State Peace and Development Council (links all on Hak’s site); she makes me laugh out loud whilst making a most serious point about the propensity of a certain type of populist, bourgeois politician in the West to suck up to the vilest  of dictatorships, if it suits his purposes .

Stalin’s Iron Lung

October 15, 2007 at 3:07 am (blogging, blogosphere, Blogroll, cults, Feminism, Galloway, internet, left, Respect, sectarianism, SWP, wankers, wine)

Just what is the current relationship between Seymour’s Lenin’s Tomb (a site that we link to; just like we link to Harry’s Place), and the Socialist Workers Party? We really should be told. And so should… John “G” (we’re keeping his real name secret in order to protect him from victimization, you understand).

Stroppier than ever

October 14, 2006 at 12:04 am (blogging, blogosphere, Blogroll, Feminism, Jim D)

All of us at ‘Shiraz’ like the ‘Stroppies’ (aka: ‘The Will Fan Club’ – link on the right) , despite their cruel breaking of our tender hearts when they stood us up in Manchester recently. The Priest and I were so distraught that we turned to drink and were quite unmanageable for a while.

Anyway, the Stroppies have a new and very tasteful design on their site. I think it’s inspired by Ms Nichole Kidmans outstanding portrayal of ‘Catwoman’ in a film. I am told that it has been created by that master of good taste and sound judgement, Will (aka ‘The Jim Denham Fan Club’ – link on the right), who also jazzed up Dave Osler’s blog (also linked-to, on the right). As I remember, having redesigned the Osler site, Will (on his blog, ‘A General Theory of Rubbish’) said someting like: “What a good-looking site: shame about the contents”.

The Stroppies’ site always had good contents: now it’s good-looking too.

We’ll stick to austere minimalism.

Congrats to all involved.
