But the SWP *is* a joke

May 8, 2017 at 3:54 pm (Beyond parody, comedy, Jim D, SWP)

Unlike some people, us Shiraz’ers can usually spot a joke.

But….

… is this a joke?

The SWP are asking people to sign a petition to kick the Tories out!

Who does that petition go to? The government? The Labour Party?

Ah! (thanks to Jason Hill, in btl comments) it goes to Corbyn – he needs to be told,  by the SWP,  of the importance of kicking out the Tories…

The petition’s on the SWP website.

Since First Finstere Minister Knickerslie is so obsessed by the old Daily Record anti-SNP TARTAN TORIES headline, she came within a breath one day in the Puirlament of calling Kezia Dugdale a Tory (the “T” was on her lips) perhaps it’s obliga–whatnote to declare oneself notatory or nae Tory or HeehawTory to deflect the charge.

    Heehawtory? Charles H(eeh)awtrey?

Call me the old old Tory,
(a song parody there, in waiting!)

What next? A flight of sky-blue Mitsubichi Zeros performing a kamikaze manoeuvre, under the billing TORY TORY TORY !!!!

Fleets of trawlers manned by Brexiteers hauling in nets of John Tory?
    Bit of Codology there!

  2. Jason Hill said,

It says at the bottom of the petition that it goes to Jeremy Corbyn.

    • Jim Denham said,

Thanks Jason. I should have checked. So it’s a “demand” on Corbyn?

Btw: do you think they’ll really send all the signatures to him?

  3. Mick said,

Well? If the petition goes to the Tories, they’ll enjoy it.

And the SWP does tick lefty boxes, like having a Marx fetish, supporting violence and intimidation against Tory governments and the police, etc.

    • Jim Denham said,

“And the SWP does tick lefty boxes” … not much passes you by, eh, Mick?

      • Mick said,

Well they must be pretty lefty!

After all, Labour shows they way, with Jeremy Corbyn telling us there’ll be a ‘reckoning’ once those boneheads win the election!

You have to admire the SWP. They must have a 24 hr secret poster factory. If anyone has a gripe or there is a rally or strike you will see an unemployed person in the background holding an SWP made poster.

  5. Jim Smith said,

Does the SWP think Jeremy Corbyn won’t try to get the Tories out unless the SWP ask him to?

    • Jim Denham said,

Well, if we rule out the unthinkable possibility that it’s just a cynical ploy to collect people’s names and addresses, that must be the explanation, Jim.

        Today’s Socialist Worker webpage:

QUOTE> Dominic Lawson, the son of former Tory chancellor Nigel Lawson wrote in 2009, “If there is a bloody Bolshevik revolution in this country, I think I can guess the inflammatory pamphlet which will be waved by the people putting the wealthy up against the walls and shooting them.

“It will not be the Communist Manifesto. It will be the Sunday Times Rich List.”

Let’s hope it will be both! <UNQUOTE

If it is a bid to collect names and addresses, let's hope it's for somebody good, like the police.

      • Glasgow Working Class said,

Personally I never put my name on a petition or my address. You never know who will knock on your door.

When I was in the SWP we used petitions to contact people in order to recruit them.

If they bought a paper then their name would have a asterisk put next to it and they would be identified, contact visited and invited to the next branch meeting.

That was all it was for. That’s the only reason we did petitioning, for party building purposes, like 99% of all the other stuff that the SWP did and do.

Sometimes we were sent of wild goose chases as the address on the petition turned out to be a derelict building or WW2 bomb site. This was in the days before google earth.

    • Glasgow Working Class said,

I did attend some WRP meetings during the seventies and they hated the SWP and everyone else on the left. The Tories never got a mention.

Collecting names and phone numbers for future sexual assault by the next ‘Comrade Delta.’

    • IainF said,

      Yes.

It was an appalling organisation with a definite culture of predatory behaviour of older males towards younger females.

They also conducted internal rape trials with a jury composed of the accused mates.

I see no evidence that they have changed. They say they have but they would, wouldn’t they?

I was a member for only a few years. It didn’t take me long to suss them and leave.
