The issue should be abolishing the EU Parliament and getting back to the original Trade Deal. I refuse to campaign for MEP’S and their gravy train.

The Brexiters’ hysterical reaction to Obama’s intervention proves that they are not only anti-Europe: they’re anti-American as well! They’re true isolationists.Jonathan Freedland takes them apart brilliantly in today’s Graun:

Oh, just noticed: brilliant polemic from Nick Cohen:

What Obama said is the USA will not hesitate to help bankrupt Britain if the people decide democratically to leave the corrupt EU.
The USA did this during Suez. We have a mutual relationship with the USA not a special one. If we did not toe their line they would bury us.
His comments were a humiliation to Britain not what a friend was supposed to say. What Obama also said is we the USA will decide who you trade with. So much for the WTO free trade.

But it’s not up to Obama! If the US wants to trade with us there is not a damned thing an elected representative can do (in the long run) to stop this happening. As socialists surely we believe that capitalism runs itself, regardless of whom is in power. Even the Cuban blockade achieved nothing.

“The 1998 U.S. State Department report Zenith and Eclipse: A Comparative Look at Socio-Economic Conditions in Pre-Castro and Present Day Cuba[48] argued that the U.S. embargo has added, at most, relatively small increases in transportation costs.”
