What a shower! the Morning Star’s roll-call of anti-EU Labourites

Tally Hoey: Labour MP Kate Hoey is furious that the Heythrop hunt plans to oust employee Julian Barnfield

The Morning Star, supposedly the voice of Britain’s mainstream left and trade union movement, becomes ever more desperate in its adherence to the anti-EU position and its self-deluding pretence that this is somehow “left wing”.
In today’s Star, we’re told that “Labour MPs [are] poised for big anti-EU drive.”

It turns out that a tiny handful of eccentric, and mainly right-wing, Labour MPs have formed a group called ‘Labour for Britain’ which will campaign for a ‘No’ vote in Cameron’s EU referendum. They’re headed by Kate Hoey, the pro-hunting former Home Office MP, who said (in 2009) that she didn’t think a Tory victory would be “so devastating“: she is probably the most right-wing Labour MP in the Commons. And this is the person the Morning Star hails as the leader of the “exit left” campaign!

Other Labour anti-EU heroes of the Morning Star are  Roger Godsiff (Birmingham Hall Green), and Kelvin Hopkins (Luton North), neither of whom can be considered in any way on the left, but are both part of the old-guard nationalist/protectionist trade union right-wing. Hopkins recently published a politically incoherent pamphlet ‘European Union – a View from the Left’ – a publication that combines pre-Marxist idealism with parliamentary cretinism in a uniquely politically illiterate combination.

And finally, as though you were not yet convinced of Labour for Britains’s left-wing credentials, we have John Mills, the boss of JML – John Mills Limited, the TV shopping and consumer products company with an annual turnover of £85m and pre-tax profits of £8.2m: Mr Mills is hailed by the Morning Star as “the national agent for the No campaign in the 1975 EEC referendum” and quoted (obviously approvingly) saying that ‘there was “an evident danger” the party could lose even more core voters to Ukip by fighting alongside the Tories to keep Britain in the EU.’

So there we have it: the CPB/Morning Star “left -wing” line-up of political dead-beats and illiterates, led by Labour’s most right-wing MP and financed by a capitalist: what a fucking shower!

Whilst I agree that Ms Hoey is to the right of Cameron, she is probably a little to the left of Simon Danczuk.

As to the socialist position on Cammo’s referendum, that, of course, is abstention. After all, we are judged by the company we keep.

    • Steven Johnston said,

Not so much that, just that workers will be exploited whether we are in or out of the EU.

    Why no Scottish Labour MPs?
Oops forgot, they were wiped by the voters out for lining up with the Tories/Ukip/BNP and oh not forgetting Workers Liberty.

    • Jim Denham said,

      and your point is..?

      • Mike Killingworth said,

He doesn’t like the look of your dogs, Jim, especially when they’re running…

  4. Steven Johnston said,

With such an impressive line up how can the “no to the EU” lobby possible fail? Same way they did in 1975 I suppose.

  5. political tourist said,

So Labour MPs are already breaking ranks.
So much for solidarity with workers in Europe.
And the old “pooling and sharing” idea that was passed off as internationalism to the punters in Scotland.

    • Glesga Keeping Scotland Free From Loonies said,

Leftie lot in George Square yesterday shouting as they do! claiming the SNP lions are not roaring. Then what did they expect from the Tartan Tories. Easy to con the lefties as they are up their own arses. How the fuck can a leftie be conned by Sturgeon and Salmond. It is time the Scottish left if any left forgot about Palestine and started thinking about the British working class.

  6. John R said,

Living in East Dulwich in the 80s, I remember Kate Hoey standing in Dulwich in the 1987 election. David Steel issued a list of “101 Damnations” – Labour candidates with Far Left views and connections. Kate (having recently been in the IMG) was there. She lost to the Tory by 180 votes.

According to Wikipedia, she was going to back John McDonald in the last Leadership election, then, when he dropped out, nominated Diane Abbott.

Maybe she’s really doing some deep, deep entrism in the Countryside Alliance.

    • Glesga Keeping Scotland Free From Loonies said,

Maybe that saddle is causing entrism and the smug I have made it to the top smile.

  8. Paul Canning said,

Repeating the line I made earlier … Any Pro-EU campaign needs to be founded on values. Namely that it is far better for nation states to work together than be driven apart. We should not return to the C19th in Europe. This is why the EU won the Nobel. It is why Putin is expending every effort to destroy the EU.

  9. political tourist said,

Forgot about that IMG/Kate Hoey story.
Didn’t she also has some serious fetish with anti GFA MP in North Down.
So she’s anti Europe, pro fox hunting, anti peace process in Northern Ireland, pro unionist, anti Jock.
Sounds like your average rightwing Ibrox Bear.
Hates everybody and wonders why nobody likes them.
Would do quite well in the Scottish Labour Party.

  10. Steven Johnston said,

going slightly off topic here but not sure where the fox hunting fits in. Engels loved foxed hunting too and I’d rather people hunted foxes than set the dogs on the workers. As for the EU, I’m not sure it can be made to work in the interests of the working class, but would love to hear how this could happen. A lot of lefties praise the Labour government of 1945 – 51, a period when the UK was not even in the EU or the EEC…as it didn’t exist then!

  11. Paul Canning said,

I would love to know how come Vauxhall CLP keeps selecting Hoey. Makes no sense whatsoever.

  12. political tourist said,

Says a lot about Vauxhall CLP.
No doubt WL will tell us it’s the party of the trade unions and the working class.
So shut up and keep voting them.

    • Glesga Keeping Scotland Free From Loonies said,

pt can you name any party that is for the working class?

  13. damon said,

    ”Kate Hoey in characteristic pose”

What on earth is that supposed to mean? That she likes to ride horses and that’s bad or something?
Would it be better if she wore a donkey jacket more often?
So she’s a bit independently minded. Good.

    • Steven Johnston said,

No more donkey jackets for the labour party, I remember what happened in 1983…though I accept Michael Foot never wore a donkey jacket on rememberance day, the damage was done.

      • Glesga Keeping Scotland Free From Loonies said,

Steven I turn up in George Square Glasgow every year for Remembrance Sunday and never wear collar and tie. I am sure the men mowed down at the Somme etc were thinking about the dress code. The hysterical press having a go at Foot was one of the worst episodes in the history of the right wing press but that is what they do best the scumbags they are.

  14. political tourist said,

Unless you have some direct connection with the Armed Forces or you were dragged along as a councillor or the local boy scouts, why the feck would you go along to George Square on a freezing cold November Sunday morning.
And why mention the Somme rather than D-Day?
Most Somme survivors have been dead for at least 40 years.
Are you some sort of super loyalist?

    • Glesga Keeping Scotland Free From Loonies said,

Two of my uncles were at the Somme and survived. Another uncle was evacuated from Dunkirk. And Yes I do have a direct contact with the British Armed Forces. Our last Normandy Veteran died 4 yrs ago.
I suppose you are one of those lefties that have no time for the armed forces but have a preference for fascists like Sinn Fein IRA! and Hamas fascists.

  15. Political tourist said,

Links with the Somme but no links with the early socialists who totally opposed WW1.
I once attended the Poppy Day event through work.
Most of the crowd other than TA, a handful of ex servicemen and a few Captain Mannering types were press ganged into being there.
Cops, fire service, Boy Scouts and dodgy councillors.
And of course the right wing nutters from the Orange Lodge etc.
Actual members of the public numbered about a dozen all OAPs.

    • Glesga Keeping Scotland Free From Loonies said,

Are you Frank Carson. Its the way you tell them.

  16. Political tourist said,

Frank Carson, para and Uncle Tom, spent his time in Palestine shooting Jews.
Come to think of it, wasn’t one of the Shankhill Butchers in Militant.

  17. Glesga Keeping Scotland Free From Loonies said,

You must lead a sad life thinking about the past when your Kaiser was defeated then Adolf. It must really be difficult knowing the Jews survived and have their own State. Incidentally the Orange Order will not be parading in NI on the 12th July and that may comfort you. You are entitled to comfort I suppose. Try reading about Bloody Friday when your PIRA working class heroes put bombs in bus shelters amongst woman and children.😃 Yes I suppose that will amuse you.
