This is a major development that the bourgeois press are too frightened to cover. Thank goodness for Nooman and the fearless ‘Socialist Unity’ site:

    Nooman’s readers are excited:

A whistleblower shows up dead and you’re posting stuff about badgers…I like this site!

If they didn’t have those cute stripey noses people wouldn’t care about culling them.

  3. charliethechulo said,

My apologies if I’ve missed it, but there seems to have been no mention here of anything to do with Israel. This seems to fit the pattern of not mentioning Israel in articles about badgers.

What I want to know is where George Galloway stands on badger culls. Anyone know?

It is a major story in the bourgeois press and was the second item on Channel 4 news tonight. Am I to understand that it is considered risible in itself that socialists should have a view about agricultural questions or animal welfare?

A little off-topic, but another Galloway thread has the comments switched-off:

It’s on Murdoch and co., for once a relatively uncontroversial piece. What are Newman and friends afraid of?

  10. Duncan said,

Ok, we get it, you don’t like Socialist Unity.

This is a really bizarre post though (even by the standards here!), why object to something which is actually an issue in many rural areas in the UK?

    • sackcloth and ashes said,

No we don’t. That’s because Socialist UnityMitford is run and moderated by a sell-out, and one of the main contributors is a fucking racist.

    • skidmarx said,

What would be bizarre is the lack of self-awareness involved in writing a post for one blog complaining that a post on another blog is about an unimportant issue. If not for the fact that doublethink is considered normal here.

      • sackcloth and ashes said,

A genocide denier has used the word ‘doublethink’. Wow.

For a real wildlife scandal (and not parochial fuckking badgers one -although they too shud be left the fuck alone) of such proportions that it beggars belief that cunTs aren’t fuckking strung-up over it see the recent conference report by Bird life International available here on the illegal massacre of wild birds:

“The year 2010 has been disastrous for the birds of Cyprus: the illegal trapping of warblers, nightingale and flycatchers has progressed by 72% in comparison with 2009. .This increase has continuied in 2011 (+9%). More than 1 million of these little birds are used in the preparation of the ambelopoulia, a local forbidden dish which ensures the fortune of poachers as well as restaurant owners”.

  12. Mr Jelly_not_Jolly said,

Ambelopoulia is a controversial dish of pickled or boiled songbirds served in some Cypriot restaurants. It is illegal in Cyprus as it involves trapping wild birds such as Blackcaps and European Robins.[1] Trapping kills birds indiscriminately, thus internationally protected species of migratory birds are killed as well. Enforcement of the ban has been lax, so many restaurants serve the dish without consequence. As a result almost 2,418,000 birds across the whole of Cyprus are estimated to have been killed during 2010.[2]

The birds are trapped in either of two ways. Black, fine-mesh nylon fishing nets, which are difficult to see, are strung between trees. Electronic bird calls lure the birds to entangle their wings and legs. Others are trapped using glue sticks made from the berries of a local tree or birdlime. The glue sticks are placed on the branches of trees, and any birds that perch on them are stuck until the trapper returns to kill them (usually with a tooth pick to the throat). Often the legs of the birds are so stuck to the glue sticks that they need to be pulled off.

The trappers defend their activity by citing the practice as traditional Cypriot hunting; even though the practice has been illegal since 1974.BirdLife Cyprus has identified restaurants as the main culprits as they provide the financial incentives.[2] The birds reportedly sell for five euros each. Since the entrails of the birds are not removed, as it is not cost effective to do so, the consumer is encouraged to swallow the bird whole.[3]

Poaching for ambelopoulia has been on the rise in recent years involving by 2011 a “mafia-like operation” that include poachers, dealers, exporters, and restaurant operators that participate in the illegal business estimated to be worth about 5 million Euro. [4]

Just when you think Shiraz can’t get more cretinous along comes this anti enlightenment lets not talk about certain issues because we deem them unworthy.

The Badger cull is an important issue, it highlights humanity’s relationship with nature (surely a worthy and important topic?) among other things and socialist unity should be congratulated for writing an intelligent sober piece on the subject.
