Just a little snippet for you, from the (crap) “Amicus.cc” website:

“The T&G broad left (or at least ‘Workers Liberty’ who seem to run it) have started to see through the sham support for McDonnell – they are even beginning to question their General Secretary.”

The bold lettering reflects my emphasis, the rest is exactly as copied and pasted from that risible site, the brainchild of one David Beaumont, an Amicus “activist” who appears not to know his political arse from his elbow. Not to mention that he exhibits all the comradeship and solidarity of a rattlesnake.

AWL people, you really should have told us that you secretly run the TGWU broad left before you let Martin write that stroppy “Open Letter to Tony Woodley” in the latest paper. Like, duuuh…

We need a theme song called “Sectariana” for this sort of occasion.

Sadly, it’s rather more important than mere sectarian amusement. The amicus.cc site has been the source for damaging allegations about the TGWU in particular, which the guy who runs it only withdrew grudgingly after extreme pressure was applied.

Furthermore he seems to be obsessed with acting like some kind of “TU Ian Hislop”, which he plainly isn’t. He therefore substitutes untrue bollocks like that which I’ve posted, in place of actual investigative journalism and satire. Think about it – of course the AWL don’t run the TGWU broad left – they’ve got one full member and a couple of associates on the broad left, and that’s all. So why’s this guy making claims to the contrary?

Looks like things aren’t that bad – http://www.politicalbetting.com has v encouraging story on campaign
The TU leaders have been disappointing…… Derekk Simpson always was the weakest link. maybe the Mps are about to surprise us.

Since when has David Beaumont been a member of Socialist Appeal?
    Sorry, just not true.

  5. charliethechulo said,

I don’t know about David Beaumont’s personal affilaitions (if any): what I do know is that ‘Socialist Appeal’ have been using his “amicus c.c” website as their vehicle for half-assed attacks on the merger and for unsubstantiated allegations against Tony Woodley. I don’t doubt that Des Hemeskirk and his comrades were badly treated by their old boss Simpson: what I object to, is the Apples using that for an apolitical campaign against the merger, using the sub-political, “Private Eye”-type gossip-site, “amicus.c.c”.

  6. Ian said,

Where have Socialist Appeal been using amicus cc?
As far as I know, one maverick SA supporter , who btw has been condemned by SA, Des Heemskirk in particular, has ‘befreinded Beaumont’ and together they ran their own half baked campaign on the TGWU BL yahoo group. This maverick was roundly condemned for using the scurrilous info about Woodley and there was apologies all round for publicising this slur.

The SA position on the merger was NOT against the merger in principle but against the instrument of amalgamation. They called for a vote against that..

SA or the apples as you call them (thats a new one!!) have never broacast any association with amicus cc as far as I can make out. Although I believe most parts of the left have used the info on Beaumonts site at one stage or another.

  7. voltaires_priest said,

    Chulo;

OK, I shall adjust my post accordingly.

  8. amicus.cc said,

Ah ha I wondered if anyone would pick that up. I think you protest too much.
You are obviously WL (or you if not you are entitled to honorary membership your ‘anti-Zionism is racism’ line).

Think about it, the letter from Martin to Woodley supports not refutes the story on amicus.cc ‘John McDonnell – The Betrayal’ http://www.amicus.cc#betrayal

    duh

  9. voltaires_priest said,

Martin’s letter obviously does not support the notion that the AWL “seems to run” the TGWU Broad Left. Because it plainly doesn’t do so, and what you stated on that issue is therefore a load of bollocks.

As for my “anti-zionism is racism” line, I’ve never once said that, and even if I had then it wouldn’t necessarily mean that I was in the AWL. So stop making yourself look like even more of a pillock than you already do.

    “duuuuh”.

“As for my “anti-zionism is racism” line, I’ve never once said that,”

You didn’t watch the video you posted then ?:
    https://shirazsocialist.wordpress.com/2007/03/30/seconds-out-round-two/

You also plainly didn’t read amicus.cc article you reference, here is the quote again : “The T&G broad left (or at least ‘Workers Liberty’ who seem to run it) have started to see through the sham support for McDonnell – they are even beginning to question their General Secretary”. The letter you then cite:

    http://www.workersliberty.org/node/7876

is from AWL and is questioning Woodley. “Seems to run” or even “runs” doesn’t mean complete control (or maybe it does to AWL).

I accept though you may not actually be AWL (although I note you don’t deny it) , on the basis that their members do probably read stuff.

  11. voltaires_priest said,

    1) Yes, I posted a video where Will slags off the SWP, no I have never said that “anti-zionism is anti-semitism”, because I don’t believe that is (always) the case.

    2) And no, the AWL don’t even “seem to” run the broad left. If you know anything about it that is.

    3) No, I’m not in the AWL.

    4) The letter which I cite is in the AWL’s public press and was written by someone who is very critical of the TGWU broad left, and of Woodley the candidate whom the broad left supported into office.

    5) You are quite correct to surmise that I don’t habitually read amicus.cc (I read that article when it was emailed to me by an amused TGWU broad left colleague). The primary reason that I don’t read it, is that I think it’s shit. Just one man’s opinion you understand.

  12. amicus.cc said,

    6) I’m bored now, bye.

  13. voltaires_priest said,

    7) OK then. Hey, I’ve heard that the CPB-ML “appear to run” Kwik-Fit. Get writing, sirrah.

Dear Comrade Ian. You posted the following comment:

“As far as I know, one maverick SA supporter , who btw has been condemned by SA, Des Heemskirk in particular, has ‘befreinded Beaumont’ and together they ran their own half baked campaign on the TGWU BL yahoo group.”

Well you obviously do not ‘know’ very much. Perhaps I can correct your lack of knowledge.

As a member of Amicus and former Editor of Amicus Unity Gazette I have never been a member of the ‘TGWU BL yahoo group’ and have never “run a campaign” with David Beaumont. I have never been “condemned by SA” of whom I am a supporter. On the contrary they have given solid support to me, Cathie Willis and Jimmy Warne who have all been victims of a political witchunt in Amicus conducted by Derek Simpson and his supporters. You can read an article from the latest SA that supports us at http://www.socialist.net/amicus-heemskerk-sacked-unfair-dismissal-derek-simpson.htm

Perhaps you should check your facts in future before publishing such inaccuracies.

    Yours Fraternally,
    Des Heemskerk

I appreciate the lack of language on Beaumont’s site, perhaps thats what makes it incomprehensible to Shiraz. Many ordinary Union members have used Amicus cc the way they would use a newspaper, with greater benefit. Only in Shiraz does the exclusive aggressive dismissive truth lie. Some can tolerate a gossipy questioning, and yet newsy, site. None of this means that Shiraz doesn’t make his own valuable contribution & I am glad to discover his site. Glad for both. Hope they don’t start concentrating on each other, just continue to offer their own POV.
