Unusual US Primary Endorsements of our Time#1

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketSome of you will recall or know from elsewhere that I think the left could and should critically support a Barack Obama candidacy for US President. There’s a whole raft of reasoning behind that, and I know my view is likely to be a minority one amongst readers of this blog. However believe me, mine isn’t the weirdest view around the web. One of loveable Republican whackjob Ron Paul’s supporters had a little spam on this blog the other day (”WAKE UP! VOTE RON PAUL!”), and then there’s this, from the irrepresibly witty South-Parkers at Something Awful:

One look at the passion of Chris Dodd, democratic presidential candidate, should be sufficient to energize every part of your body including the unspeakable parts. His perfectly parted and swept hair embarrasses preening pretenders like John Edwards and Mitt Romney. The white color of his eldercomb is pure as rime on the refrigerated pipe carrying democracy to his campaign bus. His trademark green tie is no mere affectation, it is a symbol of the green of America you get when you mix the red and the blue of our divided nation. Notice how he is squinting, that’s because the future is so blindingly bright with Chris Dodd leading our nation.

For the benefit of those reading this who are not au fait with US politics, yes Chris Dodd is a real candidate you ignorant bastards. He’s also the senior senator for Connecticut.

Anyway, cast your eyes over the whole Something Awful article here; it’s an easy-reading couple of pages, and really very funny.

Why Barack rather than John Edwards?

Edwards seems to be getting the bulk of the union endorsements.

Because it isn’t about what happens when Barack wins. It’s about what has to happen for him to win.

John Edwards is too pretty-pretty goodie-goodie for my taste, all slightly creepy toothpaste commerical smile and antiseptic southern accent. You could at least catch the authentic whiff of fried chicken and sawmill gravy in Bill Clinton’s Arkansan vowels. Still, with Iowa coming up there’s still everything to play for. The latest NYT poll
had Obama on 30%, Clinton on 26% and Edwards third with 22%.
