Yeah, we know you don’t like Christopher Hitchens. But he still has odd moments of brilliance. Take a look at this.

He indeed does display the odd flashes of brilliance and is always worth a read or listen although on iraq he has been in the gutter. He appears very sober and level headed in the clip, one of the problems with Hitchen’s is his Leninist Trot beginnings, in that it instilled in him an arrogant certainty and an inability to see the other persons viewpoint. Having no respect for any thoughts but his own he browbeats opponents in the Leninist Trot tradition.

Hence many including myself see him as an elitist, rude jerk who has found his station in life defending the Neo-cons. Even if he disagreed passionately with those of us who campaigned against the Iraq war, as there was no shortage of Bush-Blair toadies cheering the troops on, Hitchen should have kept quite, rather than get down into the neo-con trench, a sad ending really as I doubt he will live down the contempt we on the left feel towards him.

I’m pretty sure Hitchens doesn’t care about “the contempt we on the left feel towards him”.

” many including myself see him as an elitist, rude jerk” [yeah, but a brilliant elitist, rude jerk who writes better than anybody - far better than an ordinary polite mensch who can't write] who has found his station in life defending the Neo-cons [he's mostly kicking the religious at present]. Even if he disagreed passionately with those of us who campaigned against the Iraq war, as there was no shortage of Bush-Blair toadies cheering the troops on, Hitchen should have kept quite, [Hitch keep quiet? that will be the day] rather than get down into the neo-con trench, a sad ending really as I doubt he will live down the contempt we on the left feel towards him [ I don't think he will shuffle around, a broken man, because The Nation won't publish him & Chomsky abuses him].”

If only because, if you reversed his initials, he’d be called Hick Mall (sorry Mick, only playing ;))
